10 Commandments **

The Word of God often talks about the foundation of a man's life and it encourages us to make it through His Holy Word. As we go about laying that foundation we must understand that knowing the very basics and root of what we believe is critical to our spiritual lives if we are to walk in spirit and truth. See John 4:24

It is a fact that many people who claim a faith in God cannot go to the Old Testament and find where the 10 Commandments are located. We believe this is important as a part of that foundation to build upon. The reason these Laws are important is because they really show us the Holy character and nature of the Creator God. You can find these commands given to the Israelites from God through Moses in the book of Exodus chapter 20:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;  And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Thou shalt not kill.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

Thou shalt not steal.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

While it is true these Laws were given to the Israelites to set them apart (make them holy) for the Lord, they represent the Law of God for man and as we said, they reveal His character and nature for still today. It is an interesting fact that 9 out of the 10 commands are indeed all taught to the gentiles believers in the New Testament with only the commandment to keep the Sabbath not being echoed for the Christian church. See our article by clicking HERE on why the Saturday Sabbath is NOT for believers today.

Paul told us we were grafted in with the Israelites to Christ once He came to us in the flesh and went to the cross for us:
Romans 11:23

And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.

(Note: we are not grafted to be Israelites but we are ALL grafted into Christ as He is our root.)

At a later date we will break down each command in detail but for today we just want to remind you of what those laws were so you can meditate on them at your foundation and hide it in your heart. Please understand that when Jesus Christ came He did not do away with them. No, He came and He fulfilled them by keeping them all. Then He simplified them into just two commands in His gospel message/teaching to us in His New covenant.

Mark 12:30

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

Please note that we are now in the NEW covenant that Jesus gave us in Matthew 26. We are NOT under or in the old law any longer per Hebrews 7 and 8. If we will focus on these two New Testament laws that Jesus Christ said were the greatest, we will be keeping all 10 commands and fully honoring the Lord with our lives daily. Knowing what these Laws are, where to find them in His Holy Word and how they lay the ground work for the Messiahs work, it will help us to lay that strong foundation in Jesus Christ. This should aid us spiritually and then we cannot be moved in the times of testing to come, if we hold fast to them as our eternal truth to the end! See 1 Corinthians 15

God be praised....

Matthew 22:37Jesus said unto him,Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
