Harsh Rebuke or Heartfelt Reminding?

Often people are telling me it is wrong to rebuke false teachers or believers in bad doctrine and they say you need to be long suffering. Sadly they really miss the entire point as we are to rebuke at times and gently entreat at other times, all per our example in Holy scripture.
