Altar Calls are Unbiblical **

(CLICK HERE to listen to this message on John 4:24 Radio)

Altar calls originated in the late 1800’s by false teacher Charles Finney and are an appeal for an immediate response to a sermon and usually involve emotional music and an invitation to come up to the altar and ‘accept’ Jesus as your Savior.    Oftentimes there is a sinners prayer recited, (Click HERE to read about unbiblical sinnerprayers) and a piece of paper involved that after being signed by the misguided person, claims they are a member of Christ’s body of believers, therefore leading many into being false converts.

Billy Graham (ecumenical false teacher) mainstreamed the altar call and sinners prayers in his crusades from the 50’s to the 80’s.  Many false converts were created from this unbiblical practice which is not found in God’s Word.

Such ‘calls’ are usually after an emotional sermon of which there are often staged people to go up front to get the flow going and once the music starts, the peer pressure is on.

Altar calls (or invitations) are unbiblical and God’s Word does not tell His people to use psychologically manipulated pressure tactics to coerce people into making what they think is a decision for Jesus Christ.

In fact, the religious organizations that use such things are not in line with God’s Word and are quite often preaching a false gospel (click HERE to learn about proclaiming a biblical gospel) in order to fill up the pews and keep the money plate full.  Click HERE to read a 10 point test for religious bodies.

Altar calls involve moving one’s feet to the altar for a physical decision for the Jesus that was just preached and then being encouraged to follow the man made system which created such false activities as altar calls, whereas God’s Word involves the moving of a person’s spirit by faith.
Altar calls, being a physical act, fit right in with the modern religious mindset that physical acts such as baptism, the act of giving or sacraments etc. are necessary for salvation.  The conclusion of the misinformed person is that if they ‘do what the preacher said’ then they will be saved because most often these people are biblically illiterate and cannot test what they have heard (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and therefore many are being deceived.

Believers are to preach a biblical gospel (Mark 16:15), make disciples (Matthew 28:19) and God’s Word says:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

A person must hear God’s Word, (the whole truth) realize they are a sinner and in need of the only Savior who has died for their sins, defeated death and has risen to heaven.   From that a person will repent (Acts 2) be born from above (John 3:3), be baptized (Acts 2), be made a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) and will be walking in obedience (John 14:15) and holiness (1 Peter 1:15) giving their lives as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).  Salvation does not come through a man made religious service and fruit is not a signature on a dotted line or an unbiblical membership on the rolls of a religious denomination.

We encourage people to study the New Testament Church that Jesus Christ set up, and reject man made religion and its false gospels, traditions and manipulations and instead seek truth through God’s Word.
