Can You Spot An ERRONEOUS Gospel?

There are so many false messages today in the "so called" Christian religious places on just about every corner. Nothing is more devastating to a person's soul then a false gospel message. The Apostle Paul told us this in Galatians 1:
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Notice how he says... twice... if you preach another gospel you are ACCURSED?
This makes the point it is VERY important to have a biblical gospel, after all Christ died and shed His blood for the Truth did He not?

So the question is: Can you spot the false gospel whenever you see it? You must look closely to not be deceived. (By the way did you notice the gospel errors on the picture for this article? See it's misspellings )

God's Word tells us to study to show ourselves approved
(2 Timothy 2:15) and that is how we can spot and expose falsehoods that will affect the truth of a Holy God. You must be in the Word and know how to test, discern and apply all truth for your walk and His glory.

We recently ran across this gospel message for a new religious body trying to start up in Wisconsin Dells, WI called "Berean Baptist". Can you spot the major biblical flaws in their gospel that they have posted on their own website?

"Jesus DIED, was BURIED and RESURRECTED. This is the Gospel according to 1st Corinthians 15:1-4. If you receive the Gospel as payment for your sins, then you are saved immediately, irrevocably and eternally.

Salvation is the simplest thing in the world, but men can make it so complicated. Some people say that faith in Christ is insufficient to save a lost sinner. They claim that a person must depart from their sinful lifestyle and commit their life to live for God. That is a very complicated requirement for a person who's been living in sin their entire life. Old habits are not easily broken".

What is wrong with the above gospel?

Answer:

What is missing and VERY deceptive about this gospel is mainly three things:

1) They say you are eternally/irrevocably saved when God's Word does NOT teach this at all.

Jesus Himself said in Matthew 10:
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

The Apostle Paul said this in 1 Corinthians 15:
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;  By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

That is just two verses we can share and the bible has MANY more that teach you must remain in the faith and strive to the end to be saved. It is not about works either but all about holding fast to Christ through faith and obedience till the end.  The bible teaches that you can leave or lose salvation in this life so please consider that truth will you. 2) The second thing that is wrong with their gospel is there is no REPENTENCE.

The Lord and Savior said this in Luke 13:3 Unless you repent you all will perish

Peter told the first believers in Acts 2: repent and be baptized.

Again there many more verses we could share. A gospel without repentance (which is a change of mind/ways about sin) is a false gospel.

3) Their gospel message says it is "complicated" for a person to leave sin. Sadly they are making Christ's narrow road gospel (Matthew 7) into a EASY road gospel when God's Word NEVER makes any excuse for sin.

In fact Jesus Christ said this about avoiding sin in Matthew 5:
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

The Apostle Paul said this in Romans 6:
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

True redeemed people in Christ don't continue in a lifestyle of sin. They leave it as new creations in Him.

It is not all that uncommon for religious places to make an easy believe gospel so they can grow their numbers and entice more people into their unbiblical pews. They must be rebuked and then rejected per Romans 16:17.

We hope this exercise in identifying a false gospel has helped you to seek out and recognize when a teaching is true and when it is in great biblical error. Please get into the Holy Word and study it all (in context) so you will be prepared as a fully approved as a worker of the Lord.
