Politics / Should Christians Be Involved?

Its 2022 and another election is here. Are you focused on it or the kingdom of God?

Whenever a believer is considering how they will walk through their life, many situations come up that must be tested using God's holy word as a guide. It is the standard by which we must live. Sadly today far too few people who claim to be Christians really hold to it as THE standard and so we want to encourage people to refocus on it for ALL things. That is what our website is all about; God's Word and truth.

Phillipians 4:8 tells us to:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

We are also told in Colossians 3:2....
to set our minds on things above (not on things of this world)

Today in this nation it seems politics / being involved in them is one of those issues we hear about as we encounter people and yes another election cycle is approaching in 2024. We often are asked about this issue as we relate and witness to people so we thought it would be wise to go to God's Word and get some direction from it. While we do have an opinion on this topic the truth is, what you or I believe, feel or think is unimportant as only God's truth is eternal and lasting. We will get our truth and direction from the Word not man. While it is true some good can come of a well meaning person involved in politics; we cannot use pragmatism (doing some wrong so some good will come) as a rule for our daily living.

Much of what drives political motives today comes from the rabid patriotism in America which we have written about in the past. Patriotism smacks of idolatry so beware!

So how can you be Holy ( set apart for God ) as you partake in the vile corrupt politics of man?

The founding of this nation and the feelings people have about it were not and are not rooted in the truth of God's Word at all. Many errors and sinful ways were involved at the founding of this nation. To be clear; the USA was NOT fully founded on the Word of God nor is patriotism ever taught in the bible for God's true people. This article explains that for you:  http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/search/label/Patriotism

We believe by looking at some key verses in scripture your heart and mind will be shown what is biblical and correct for the redeemed person regarding and the involvement of voting or the seeking of public office.
It is written!

Voting

Many times people are very upset or angry at the leaders that are chosen via the political system of man
In 1 Samuel 8 we read all about how a nation will get the leaders it deserves. This is of God and it is a form of judgement for their sinful ways. It appears America has fallen into that mode as well and it is not secret that politics today are VERY corrupt. So to vote today means you must choose the lesser of evil. In doing that you are still choosing evil and this is not of God.
This verse below helps us to see that a believers true citizenship is not on earth; but in heaven.

 Philippians 3:20
For our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

The Word citizenship in the Greek is politeuma and we get our word politics from it.  It would seem that verse alone tells us we are not to be about politics here as we are of heaven if we are in Christ but there are many more verses we can share on this topic
Please see them below:

Running for Political Office

Many claimed Christian people strive politically to help make a "better the world" for God but the truth is Jesus Christ said this in John 18:36...
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

People are often swept up into politics to the point it consumes them. Jesus reminded us about a man having two masters in Matthew 6:24
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other.

Taking political office usually requires a person to swear an oath of office. But in Matthew 5:34 is the words of Christ telling His followers to make no such oath:
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth;

The political systems of this world are not of God and in 2 Corinthians 4:4 we see who the god of this world is:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

We also know the world in the last days will be deceived by a global world political system (see in Revelation 14 and 17 ) and who is behind it all? Revelation 12:9 says this:
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

In 2 Timothy 2:4 we hear Apostle Paul telling us we are to be soldiers of Christ, not for the world:
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

Many people in politics have to get close to and be friends with the world to win. But in James 4:4 we are instructed:
know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Rather than going into the world's systems and joining them Paul says this in 2 Corinthians 6:17:
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

Believers are to live free if they can and not be slaves to man's systems and often entering politics makes one a kind of slave to it. In 1 Corinthians 7:21 we read this:
Art thou called being a servant? care not for it: but if thou mayest be made free, use it rather.

Rather than being ambassadors for the worlds system (politics) 2 Corinthians 5:20 tells us who we are to be ambassadors for:
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Jesus Christ told us what our priorities should be as His holy people in Mark 16:15 and He doesn't mention running for election.
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

He also said what we are to seek first and it was not political gain in Matthew 6:23
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

In Acts 5:29 Peter tells us to obey God over man yet often politics causes a compromise in ones life.
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Ephesians 6:12 talks about spirits in high places
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

and Revelation 17: warns about the systems of man and its evil connections in the last days.
With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

These are both speaking about areas that will include the religious/worlds political systems. Why would Gods people choose to be part of it?

Revelation 18:4 again calls God's people out of its ill/false religious and political systems:
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

Many people will say they have to try and build (or do) something good in the political systems of man when God's Word tells us this in Psalm 127:1
Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it

The Lord and Savior of the universe told His people clearly that they are not of this world system in John 17:15-17 so why would they strive to be part of man's ill system then?
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.   They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

After seeing all of the verses that speak to the evil systems of man and the holy ( set apart ) ways of God's people; it seems to be very clear God's people should not be of mans corrupt political system. America is willingly headed into massive error, lies, deceit, perversion and the one world system. Its political system of corruption is leading the way so how can a holy person of God compromise to be part of that?

If you disagree with our stance on this topic; please bring us the verses that tell God's redeemed people to go be part of evil and compromise in mans fallen ways and defy scripture as you do it?
We cannot find those verses in our bible.

If you need even more evidence consider this:
Many people will try to defend holding office by saying that Joseph and Daniel both held a office in the Old Testament. While this is true; neither of them ever ran for a office at all. They were appointed to those positions and God was involved in it for His glory. In fact this little bit of info should really cement this topic in your mind. There is not one single case of ANYONE EVER running for any office in the bible. Voting is of man's ill system and it comes down to a popularity contest that God's people should avoid for His glory.

We will leave you with this last bit of biblical wisdom to help you see clearly that politics and voting are NOT for God's true people. In 1 Corinthians 11:1 the Apostle Paul says this:
Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

Did you read that closely?

Paul says we are to imitate him as he follows Christ. We are not to imitate Joseph, Daniel, Ronald Reagen or any other politician. No, we are to follow after Paul and remember him ( as he imitates Christ ) in ALL things. This would mean even politics amen? And ask yourself this; could you ever see Paul or Jesus giving up their striving for the Father in ministry and holiness to spend time and energy chasing a vain office in man's fallen political system? We will pray that you see the answer is NO!

They were about the Lord's work and the Fathers will which is what His true people today should be about each and every day for His glory. Romans 12:2 says don't conform to this present world.
We have never yet met a man who is involved in politics who was not worldly, unbiblical and compromised in his ways. Being involved in man's politics only serves to conform you to its own ways in the end.

Please know that Gods word is true and we hope you follow it fully to spirit, truth and freedom in Christ.

Let us know if we can help you in anyway at all?
