Joel 2 Dreams and Visions Explained



Many people today that claim Christ are into the signs, wonders and experience based religion are looking at the scripture verses from Joel 2 and saying, this is what is happening today!

Note: we are not charismatic nor do we deny God can move in miracles as he sees fit like dreams, healing's, tongues etc. But what we see being done today and who it is done by (mostly heretical penetacostal NAR types) we know it needs to be examined / tested to God's word. Sadly most all of it falls very short of the truth of the Word so be very cautious lest you be deceived.  

 These groups include charasmatics, pentecostals and the NAR / Word of faith cult groups. They are claiming to be having many dreams, visions and many strange physical our pourings like being slain in the spirit, speaking new prophecy and tongues being focused upon in a major way. They say this is now the outpouring that Joel spoke of long ago and Peter also mentioned in Acts 2?

 Lets go to the Word and see......

If you study Joel 2 correctly you will see that indeed many things will happen but when will this happen? By just reading the Word of God we know when. It all that happens around the events of the day of Lord ( Christs return ) so... it cannot be happening today.

 Here is why:

Peter said in Acts 2 verse 17 
And it shall come to pass in the last days

While God did pour out the spirit in Acts 2 and today we are closer to the last days, we are NOT in the day of the Lord / last days Joel describes in chapter 2.

 The out pouring in Acts 2 was indeed of God but it was for a limited purpose and time. It is NOT still on going today in that same way and certainly NOT like Joel described it will be at Christ's return. The miraculous signs of the first century all had specific purpose and then they all faded as the Word of God was finished and then made available to us for our instruction in Christ. As proof I ask these people were are the flames of fire on heads with mighty rushing wind of Acts 2 / unknown tongues spoken at their baptism and they have NONE! Why? It was for then then it faded mostly till the last days as we will see in Joel 2.

 By reading Joel 2, we clearly see when this will all happen full blown:

 Verse 27 says it is all about / around Christ's return event.....

 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.

Then in verse 28 tells us when the dreams and visions come....
And it shall come to pass afterward,

After what you may ask???? ... after the events of the day of the Lord / Christs return.

 Verse 11 tells us what Joel is talking about:
And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? 

 Go look up these others verses that speak about the Day of the Lord ( Christs return ) it is all over God's Word. Isaiah 2:12, Joel 1:15, Amos 5:18, Zephaniah 1:7, Zechariah 14:1, Malichi 4:5, 1 Corinthians 5:5, 2 Corinthians 1:14, 1 Thessalonians 5:2, 2 Thessalonians 2:22, 2 Peter 3:10 and Revelation 6 and 16  

In these verses 25-29 of Joel 2 it says:

 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. 

The pouring out of those things it seems to be at the time of day of the Lord..... so we cant say it is all today which is way before that event! (Peter must have been referencing it to "Joel 2 like" but not mean it is all happening today as that was 2000 years ago and we are still waiting on Christ's return and more move of the Spirit)

 It also seems to be those events take place in/near Israel, (after some major war battles) as that is where Christ returns, not here to America or anywhere else. (remember Jesus returns to Israel!) 

 Verses 20-23
 But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things. Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things. Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength. Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

 Sadly false men today are terrible bible teachers and taking God's Word out of context and doing sinful scripture twisting for ill gain and satan is having his way with false signs and wonders to deceive. 
I address this topic as when I go out preaching I am meeting MANY people who are being taken in by these false signs/wonders and they are ignoring solid biblical doctrine / the gospel truth to be lead astray by questionable spiritual wonders that are really false and not of God but the enemy satan. It is a way for them to feel a false spirituality but they are very deceived. They lack the truth of the Word and the fruit of holiness obedience or leaving the world/false religion is NOT there at all in them. 

 The other very important note is Jesus warned about false signs and wonders in the last days in Matt 24:22-27
And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened. Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before.Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The facts are clear. While we are closer to the last days every day, we are not today in the day of the Lord so the Joel 2 dreams and visions are NOT happening all over as these false men claim today.... per God's Word. It seems satan the enemy is having a field day deceiving people thinking they are seeing things and having signs from God now when, it is NOT yet come as the Word describes. 
It is satan who is often doing signs and wonders and he is fooling millions but NOT the elect as they will cling to the Word!
