Singleness and Submission for Women

We received a question about single women and submission and in order to encourage all the sisters, we'll answer it here.

We see a great problem with feminism in single women claiming Christ, saying there are no other godly men around so they are stepping up into the role of leading and teaching. This is sinful and against God's commands.

Thus saith the Lord....

Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.  For Adam was first formed, then Eve.  And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
1 Timothy 2

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.  And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
1 Corinthians 14

This is perfect timing to share this story. (I may have shared it before, I'm not sure.)

I was in a thrift store in Wisconsin many years ago and the woman running it was talking to someone about how she's a ministry and she is ordained and 'marries and buries' people.  She laughed about it and the people thought it was funny.  When I was checking out I mentioned that I'd heard part of her conversation and asked her if she knows about 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Corinthians 14 that says a woman is not to teach or be in authority.

She said 'Oh I know all the verses but there are no godly men around to do it.  About 10 years ago God told me to step up and do it'.  She then used Deborah in the Old Testament to back up her story. She countered it by saying, "Believe me, it's not something I want to do but God God told me to.

I warned her to repent and go deeper in God's word because I could see many other areas she was in sin also.  I gave her a gospel card and said that my husband would love to talk to her some time.  Fast forward 2 years later when we were traveling through that town and brother Jim came in with me.  I reminded her who I was and the conversation she and I had, then asked if she was still in an authority position.  She said she was and a conversation occurred between her and brother Jim in which she ended up getting angry that God still speaks today and women can teach and lead if there are no men available.  In the end she was screaming at us to get out.

First of all, God does NOT give new revelation by speaking today, read Hebrews 1, He speaks through the WORD.  What happened to that woman is mysticism and NOT of God.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds
vs 1-2

If you had a mystical experience similar to that woman, you need to cast that aside and not claim it is of God because it's not, lest you be calling God a liar  (for contradicting His word) and be a blasphemer yourself.

As for her saying that she really didn't want to do it but God told her to, that's a lie.  If she really wanted to be obedient to God, she would follow the scriptures and not her mystical, unbiblical experiences that leads to death and not to life.  John 4:24 we worship in Spirit and TRUTH, not lies.

God does not lie and would never tell a woman to do something that He commanded not to do. Wives are to submit to their husbands, single women submit to the male authorities in the body and if you have neither, then you are to lead a quiet life serving the Lord in obedience to the scriptures.

Pretty simple....but not what women want to hear!

Feminism started in the garden with Eve and is running rampant today and quite honestly we've heard all the excuses.  Yes, God says the harvest is great and the workers are few:

Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Matthew 9:37-38

That does not mean women are to do the roles of men.  It says to pray that He will send forth laborers.  Yes, women can be laborers in the work of the Lord out on the streets because we see Paul praising many women for laboring with him.  (WITH him or male authority, not out on their own doing what we see going on today.)  There were wives of the apostles who traveled with them. We see praises of various women who worked in the New Testament body but nowhere do we see godly women stepping up into authority because there were no men around.

What about Deborah?  The answer is that she was in the Old Testament and was an example to shame the men.  She tried to defer the authority to Barak but he refused.  We are in the New Testament and God's Word says what it says, women are NOT to do what they are trying to do today.  Women don't want to hear that, obey it and instead make excuses for taking on the roles of men.

A single woman who does not know a biblical body that she can submit to, needs to simply live for the Lord with a meek and quiet spirit and if the Lord wills to change that, He will. If the situation never changes and she lives and dies alone, then that is His will also.

We tell people not to get their theology off the internet and get into the bible but if single women are out there anyway and they happen to come across us, we are happy to help them after they take time to go over the articles and test us to the Word.  If they have questions, we are happy to answer and we daily feed the 'sheep' through our teaching blog and the sisters blog here.  If we get a question that we don't have an article on, we will write one for the edification of all the saints and everyone grows.

Sisters, if you are taking on the authority and role of a man (whether you are married or not), you must repent of that sin lest you be cast into the lake of fire for your rebellion.

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
1 Samuel 15:23

I want to put this out there for you single sisters who have said that you would love to be married, stay home raising children and lead a quiet life but until then you are practicing the role of a man. I got news for you, if it's God's will that there is a godly man out there for you, he's going to run right past you because he's not going to want a feminist woman.

God has His men out there working and it's none of our business where He has them or what they are doing, it's our business of being a godly women and obeying the scriptures in our own lives.

Praise God, each day we can repent and serve Him in obedience.
