We got a question emailed to us about a verse and I thought we should share it with everyone.

Hebrews 10:26
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins
The person asked if they have sinned after knowing Jesus will they perish in hell per Hebrews 10:26?
Good question and the key here is the word... willfully.
hekousias in the Greek and it means to voluntarily willingly of your own accord.
So the verse is saying if we decide to sin on, once we know it is wrong there is no more sacrifice left for that sin and we will perish. It continues:
But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Now that sounds like a terrifying verses that would in fact damn us all to hell. We all have sinned even after we came to Christ.
(even Apostle Paul in Romans 7 admits he struggled with sin too)
Fact:
We must always use ALL of God's Word to build our theology/beliefs not one verse. See Matthew 4:4 / we live by it all.
We know that 1 John 1:9 says
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
( that includes forsaking and leaving the sin )
So that is the good news!!!! If we sin as believers we can confess and forsake it we can still be cleansed. If you ask, well how many times can I sin and repent and God till forgive me? Remember Jesus told Peter to forgive a brother 490 times, wow! ( Matthew 18:21 ) But I would not take God's grace lightly. Repent and strive to live obedient and holy today and everyday. 1 Peter 1 ;15
Many verses tell us that Christ came to seek and forgive the sinner to redeem a people for Himself. As humans, we are all fallen and prone to sin in the flesh at times. Before we were born again, we sinned freely and we liked it. Now that we are new creations ( 2 cor 5:17 ) we will HATE sin and we should try to sin much less. But when it happens, Heb 10:26 is telling us to repent of it and leave it ( not live in it ) or it will NOT be covered by Christs blood.
Let me give you a example.
If I went out and stole things daily and I just keep doing it as a Christian. I would know it is sin but I am WILLFULLY doing it on and on with no repenting of it. This is what Hebrews 10;26 is talking about. On going sin that you know is against God but you do it anyway with out fighting to stop. No crying out to God or even trying to repent of it for the Lord's glory and that will put you in the path of God's wrath! (Jesus saves us OUT of our sin, not IN our sin)
So take heart!
We serve a merciful, patient and loving Father BUT; do not trample Christ's blood by living in your sin daily or willfully. Ask for forgiveness then turn and do better! Read Romans 8 where Paul talks about the goodness and the severity of God or be cut off!
Note: We will make it to heaven on what Christ has done for us not on what we have done. But, if we are in a saving faith, we do NOT live in sin willfully and trample His precious blood, that is fruit you are rebellious against; God not IN Him.
Many today have their own made up faith ways or even Sunday man made religion are in GREAT danger as they will live in their sins thinking they are all covered and clean. They will be cast into hell lest they repent / operate in a saving faith that leads you to obey. See Hebrews 5:9
Do not be like them.... repent and obey the gospel to eternal life!
( see the gospel below )
I hope that gives you all encouragement and a better understanding of Hebrews 10:26 as you march on for Christ!
God be praised
