Seeking the Kingdom of God

 Jesus said this and it has had a deep and profound affect on my life;

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

Seeking eternal things is a very interesting concept that few really ponder or spend much time on at all. It is true that most people spend time on earthly things and false religion, NOT His kingdom.

Imagine if I told you to look at this picture and find a bird.

The bird in the picture is God's amazing creation called a hummingbird. (like 2 inches long)

Most people give up very quickly and say; I do not see any bird!

Here is the same picture (blown up) and you can easily see the little fellow. In the first picture, look at the very center, then go up and to the right a bit (in a v) and he is sitting right there in plain sight.

My reason in showing the picture that I took recently was to illustrate a point. Often just because we cant see things; humans tend to believe they are not there and that is quite foolish. I could see the little bird easily but others could not and why? I saw him fly there and I just knew where to look is all!

God's word is so very clear that we are to SEEK the things of God most of all. Like the bird picture, the things of God (His kingdom) are often not easily seen by many; till they focus, seek hard and know where to look! Interestingly the bible teaches this as faith is actually trusting in what we cannot even see.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1

Lets look at some verses on seeking:

Deuteronomy 4:29 - But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

Proverbs 8:17 - I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Jeremiah 29:12-14 - Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

Matthew 7:7-8 - Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

1 Chronicles 16:11 - Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

Lamentations 3:25 - The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

Isaiah 55:6-7 - Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

Psalms 119:10 - With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

Jeremiah 29:13 - And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Psalms 34:10 - The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Psalms 63:1 - O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Job 5:8-9 - I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

2 Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

James 4:8 - Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Psalms 40:16 - Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The LORD be magnified.

Psalms 119:2 - Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Psalms 14:2 - The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

Psalms 9:10 - And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

My main point of this article is just to remind you that this fallen world culture is designed by satan the enemy of your soul; to deceive you. If you allow your life to be cluttered up with things, pursuits, money, false religion and the desires of the flesh; you will NOT look, see clear or even seek Christ / the Kingdom of God. You will miss it via unbelief/sin and then damnation is the only other option.
2 Thess 1:8-10

Some more verses on seeking:

Col 3:1-2  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Romans 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:

Acts 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

Luke 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

These verses prove that you must SEEK it with all that you are or you will not find it and this seeking is the proof we love God. (Matthew 22 the great command to love God with all of you) Of course we find it all via the gospel and new life in Jesus. (see the gospel link below)
Have you been made new in Him?

I need to go back to the point about knowing where to even look. To see God's kingdom for yourself, it is very important you understand where it resides today on earth. Jesus told us until it comes on earth physically at His return in the end of days; the kingdom of God is where?

Luke 7:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

He is in and with His people either alone or in groups as they seek His face together as the NT body. This goes perfectly with we are now the temple of God via the holy spirit.... if.... we are born again. (1 Cor 3:16) Jesus residing in us in John 14 and 16 also displays the kingdom .

The key points we must all ask ourselves regarding this seeking is:

1) are we seeking Him/His kingdom most of all in this life?
2) do we have faith in it and do we know where to look?
3) are we willing to forsake all of this life to gain eternal life?
4) are we truly children of God or in most cases, just religious lost people?
5) do you even know and keep the Holy Word of God His kingdom is built upon?

I am happy to report to Gods credit/glory that I can see the kingdom of God in my life and others who know/serve Jesus Christ biblically. It is by faith and the holy fruit that we can see the transforming work He has done in us all. It is my hope you will look beyond what you cant easily see (like the bird picture) to really believe, to see and seek after that which is valuable, eternal and of faith. Has God done a real work in you? If you look hard and long enough, you can see God's finger prints all over mankind, the bible and this earth that He created for His pleasure/His kingdom in us.

It has been said that you do not live for anything, till you will die for it. Does that describe your life in Christ and your striving for the kingdom?

That little humming bird is an amazing, delicate, beautiful creature but as Jesus said, mankind is worth so much more then a tiny bird. (Matthew 10:31) Is not God's kingdom worth seeking after with all that you are? Why hold to this fleeting, temporal, vain life vs eternity with the One who created you and shed His blood for you? What are you desiring after today most of all? Can you really say you see and seek the kingdom by faith above all else?

Ponder that will you?

God be praised
