We recently went to stop at a local store and in the middle of the week it was closed. To our surprise they were closed for Ascensions days so we decided we needed to test this holiday to see if it is a God ordained holiday or one made of man.
If you read God's Holy Word which is His instructions and doctrines for His true people ( the ekklesia / called out ones ) you will NOT find this holiday called ascension day. So then why do so many who claim to call Christ 'Lord' ( mennonites, roman catholics, methodist and others ) practice this day as a holy-day?
If you do a history study you will find it was invented around the 4th century then practiced and handed down by the roman catholic pagans. It was Luther and the other false reformers that handed it on to their brand of man made religion called protestant-ism.
The day is said to mark or remember the ascension of Christ into heaven.
While that in itself is not sinful, this is just another example of man made religion following after the religious traditions that God NEVER ordained or commanded. This holiday by itself would not be harmful but when you add the pagan ways of Christ-mass / Easter to it and you see all the man made ritual gatherings on every corner on Sunday mostly void of God's full truth; you begin to see a dangerous pattern formed. Groups of religious people ( denominations ) keeping the traditions of man as they most often disregard the truth of God's Holy Word for His people.
Note: this makes them of MAN not of God, sad but true!
The Apostle Paul spoke of mans false ways in Colossians 2
Many will try to say they have "Romans 14 liberty" to celebrate certain holy days as they please. That type of liberty is a lie. The the liberty Paul spoke of was about the old law to the NEW covenant (food and OT holydays) it had nothing to do with making up false holy-days and keeping them in an attempt to honor God. This liberty claim is being abused all over the so called Christian world and it is shameful!

Jesus showed us how he HATED those who kept man made ways but they ignored God's Word in Mark 7:6-9
I did some quick research and found this blurb/quote on a methodist website:
"Centuries later, our United Methodist forebear, John Wesley, emphasized the day by including it as one of three non-Sunday holy day observances included in his Sunday Service of the Methodists in North America—a forerunner of our Book of Worship. The other two are Good Friday and Christmas".
Question:
Since when do Christ's true people follow men (John Wesley) vs clinging to God's Eternal Holy Word alone?
Fact:
Man and his religious ways turns serving Christ into a bunch of rituals and events vs OBEYING His Word daily just as He commanded we do.
It all really comes down to this:
Apostle Paul.....the man who Christ picked to proclaim the gospel and teach what the true New testament body via holy scripture said this in 2 Thessalonians 2:15
Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold to the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word or our epistle.
Jesus said we live by every word out of the mouth of God in Matthew 4:4
So what are you following today if you claim Christ? Man's traditions/ways?
or
God's Word and the holy traditions/instructions/doctrines handed down by God's true people for His set apart ekklesia/body?
Ask yourself, are you doing things like holydays handed done by false, unbiblical pagan men as you sit in a body that ignores much of God's Word? How can this be pleasing to God at all?
Test yourself won't you? His true people come out of sin and error choosing God and His truth over man made traditions.

Sadly I recently had a mennonite elder tell me they keep the traditions of the fathers of their faith ( early mennonites) to hold on to their heritage.
