(Once there use control F and type Mothers Day to find it)
Mothers Day seems like a harmless, sweet event that so many partake in but are its roots really that innocent?
As with all things we ( born again Christians ) are to test them to God's Word (1 Thessalonians 5:21) and expose evil (Ephesians 5).
With the annual holiday of Mothers Day due next on the calendar, we thought we needed an article on this topic as we have been asked about it in the past. Man and his fallen ways has a habit of using things not approved by God and making them mainstream/accepted over time. This ill holiday is just another example.
You may ask why would we be against this Mothers day event? Read on and you will see why but; I also want to remind you that unless you start to toss out that which the world esteems like Mothers Day, Memorial Day, Forth of July, funerals, graduations and birthdays etc etc you are conformed to the world. Romans 12 says do NOT be conformed to it. We choose to obey God not man!
Note: You may not be aware but this holiday was not born of flowers and candy for a dear mom. No, it has a much more dubious past to say the least.
Some facts for you about Mothers Day:
*It can be traced back to ancient Greece and Rome where it was celebrated as a day to embrace pagan goddess mother figures.
*It is celebrated by every major culture on earth and it all centers around some type of goddess or earth worship idolatry.
*The pagan roman catholic faith uses it to lift up Mary in idolatry.
*Witches and pagan Gaia earth worshipers also embrace this holiday as a way to lift up new age Mother earth.
There is no dispute that this holiday is rooted in idolatry and false pagan ways going far back into man's history. Even if you try to look at the more recent 1908 American Mothers day holiday started by a woman named Jarvis just to remember her mother; it does not take away that it is all rooted in (paganism) all over the globe.
Note: We are not about to say if you give your mother flowers on this day you are a pagan idol worshiper. No, but there is a greater issue at hand here. Showing your mother love is not a sin. What is sin is claiming God then NOT living according to His holy Word by avoiding that which is worldly, pagan and even evil. Often when people push back against the warnings we give about false pagan ways like Mothers day, the very same people who embrace it they are undiscerning and also doing greater spiritual apostasy by uniting to Christmas, Easter and various false religious systems of man.

The bigger question is 'should those who claim Jesus Christ as Lord, openly embrace and partake in what is clearly rooted in pagan false ways of old Goddess worship?'
God's Word gives us the clear answer .......
The Old Testament command was indeed to honor parents.
Exodus 20:12
Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
But does honoring them mean we have a special holiday to lift them up? No, we see no example of that in the holy scriptures or the early NT body of Christ. It is man who does such things for sinful/vain reasons and often money making efforts. (billions of dollars are made over Mothers Day) If you love your mother you do not need a special day of the year to show it do you? Show it often and always is the real truth if you are united with her.
In Jeremiah chapter 10 God tells His people the Israelites....
Side note:
Jesus Himself showed who He honored as His mother and family most of all in Matthew 12.
So the idea of lifting up Mom on a certain day is not born of God. In fact; we are not to lift up Mothers on a special day or anyone at all if we live by God's Word and ways. We are to live everyday obeying His commands lifting up Christ a alone, are we not?
But why else should we reject this man made holiday with its pagan past?
The bible warns about fleeing all appearance of evil in 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
If pagan holidays do not cause you to flee, you really do not understand the holiness of God very well at all!
The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6 talks about God's people coming out of darkness and then God will embrace them.
Here are some more scriptures that give guidance to those who desire to keep His Word and not give in to pagan ways.
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world
Titus 2:12
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Col 2:8
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Matthew 15:3
There are many more scriptures we could share to warn you about embracing false and pagan ways. We hope this article will get you to start testing all things including yourself to see if your truly born of God.

Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Note: God's true people are NOT to be about pagan ways. They are to be holy which means...... set apart for Him!
Side note:
Jesus Himself showed who He honored as His mother and family most of all in Matthew 12.
Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 6 talks about God's people coming out of darkness and then God will embrace them.
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
This sounds like good advice to us; if you fear a Holy God.Here are some more scriptures that give guidance to those who desire to keep His Word and not give in to pagan ways.

Matthew 15:3
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

God is very specific in His Word and we are not to add or take away from its truth.
Thou shalt not do so unto the Lord thy God: for every abomination to the Lord, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods.
What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Deuteronomy 12
By openly celebrating holidays the fallen world has created, are we (those who serve Him) not adding to and taking away from His truth?
We are called to be HOLY in all our ways
1 Peter 1:15
Something you must consider before you run off and celebrate holidays clearly rooted in paganism that God abhors.
God be praised
