The topic of headcovering causes great controversy because most people push against it without having delved into what God's word says on it. Feminists and many of the men hate this topic. This article is not to show that headcovering is for today (it is) as we have an indepth article on it here. Please read it before continuing.

That brings us to the question 'should she be covered all day or just when praying and prophesying?' The concept people have today is that a woman should 'put on' a headcovering (when praying or prophesying) but if we look in scripture we see in the Old testament the women wore them as part of their clothing...
And the priest shall set the woman before the Lord, and uncover the woman's head (Numbers 5:18)
Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. (Isaiah 47:2)
The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. (Song of Solomon 5:7)
In Isaiah 3:23 God says He will take away their 'vails'.
In Ruth 3 Boaz tells Ruth to bring the 'vail' that she has upon her.
God's Word shows us that the women of old were covered and shows it was shameful to be uncovered in everyday situations.
Many who see that there should be a covering claim that it is only in the church body gathering that she must be covered, saying that 1 Corinthians 11 is referring to the body gathering. Scripture simply says 'when' a woman prays or prophesies it doesn't say where so they are adding to scripture where Deuteronomy and Revelation warn about doing so. 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Corinthians 14 say women are not to speak in the body (gathering) so their argument falls flat here because women pray and prophesy (today that would be speaking from the Word of God) outside the body gathering.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
The greek word for pray is: proseuchomai pray to God, that is, supplicate, worship: - pray (X earnestly, for)
Prayer is part of worship.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service
We are to be a ‘living’ sacrifice until we die, this is our worship. So as long as we are living, we are to present ourselves (without ceasing) as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable as our worship to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
The greek word for thanks: eucharisteo be grateful, that is, (actually) to express gratitude - (give) thank (-ful, -s).
Who are we to express this thankfulness, gratefulness, gratitude toward? God. When are we to express it? In ‘everything’.
Should women be a living sacrifice and giving God thanks, praise or prayer while uncovered?
Scripture also says in verse 10 'for this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels'. Nobody can claim to know exactly what that means but we do know angels can be anywhere, anytime. And for what cause should a woman have power on her head? Read the previous verses that - women was made for man.
Headcovering shows the headship order that God created. Jesus is the head of man, man the head of woman and God the head of all. Man's glory (woman) should be covered and woman's glory (hair) should be covered.
To summarize:
1. We see women were already covered and it was shameful to have it removed.
2. Angels can be anywhere, anytime
3. We are to pray unceasing, give thanks and our living sacrifice is our worship to God all day, every day; not certain days or times in certain locations.
4. A christian woman is not to conform to the ways of the world and we see in the culture today, women using hair as a sexual tool (Romans 12:2) this is how a godly Christian woman is holy and sets herself apart and keeps herself for her husband. (Her glory/sexuality should be shown to him.)
