Spirit and Truth Discernment: Why Do We Christian Men Dress as We Do?

Many people believe dress is NOT important to God but it is indeed part of a godly biblical man or woman's life not to be ignored, lest we are in sin. The bible clearly teaches on this. This is a serious thing as our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit if you are born of God. 1 Cor 3

How should we cover it then?

This article is just to cover in a brief bullet point way, why we Christian men dress as we do so you can learn to do it and defend it biblically when asked. Here we go:

1) God clothed Adam and eve in skins to cover their forms in Genesis 3. (What Adam/ Eve made (aprons) were NOT appropriate to God )

Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

2) God forbid men and women clothing themselves the same.

The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment:for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.

Dueteronomy 22:5

3) It was God who instructed breeches for men/priests (later they became pants in cultures) not for women.

And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach: Exodus 28:42

4) Men also wore robe like garments to hide their forms with breeches underneath as a second covering. (those became pants later in culture)

We see many verses in scripture that show men wore britches (Exodus 28:42; Exodus 39:27-28; Leviticus 6:10; Leviticus 16:4; Ezekiel 44:18 and men girded their loins. That meant to tuck their coat/robe into their belt (what they called a girdle) and they could do that because they wore britches underneath. Job 38:3 This left their legs unhindered for work.... but still covered.

5) It was God who instructed long robes / dresses for ladies

In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

1 Timothy 2

( apparel is a long flowing dress in the Greek )

6) Men are to be the example to the ladies and youth so they too should were a loose robe like garment over pants to cover their privates/forms.

Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.

1 Peter 5:3

7) Read Revelation and see the future has saints in robes!

And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Rev 7:14

Robe like garments are part of God's Holy people!!!

In the beginning mankind ( Adam and Eve ) sinned and tried to cover their forms in a leaf apron. God saw this was NOT enough coverage and ..... in Genesis 3:21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

God Himself placed Adam and Eve in a tunic / robe like garment
( to the knees or beyond )

The Hebrew word for coat is Kethoneth ..
a shirt:—coat, tunic, robe.

In truth, all godly men since Noah to Jesus have worn such a garment to cover their forms per the Lord's instruction and that ha never changed. In fact, Jesus is coming back in a tunic/robe per Revelation 19:13
And he was clothed with a vesture ( robe ) dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

**Today most ( even claimed believers) are disobeying God by showing off their forms in a sinful manner of clothing. The dress standards have followed the fallen culture NOT God's Holy Word.
Note: we do not wear biblical clothes to be closer to God or look religious. No, we wear biblical dress to obey Him because we are born of Him!

Heb 5:9
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Next,
how can we men tell our ladies to cover their forms in loose long dresses, as we show off ours in tight pants and tucked in shirts????

Having said all of that lets look at a example of a unbiblical way to dress that does NOT meet the spirit of God's Word.

This is a Independent Baptist dress that clearly shows off a mans form so it is sinful!!!!

Here is a example of a biblical godly dress for a man.

It shows that he has his form covered with a loose longer tunic garment to hide his private parts with loose pants (once breeches) underneath for a second covering. This indeed meets the spirit of God's Word for dress on a God fearing man.
