Godly men should dress per the Lords ways NOT the culture.

Before we dig into scriptures and the
character and nature of God let’s remember why we wear clothing in the first
place. It is die to SIN.

In the beginning mankind ( Adam and Eve ) sinned and tried to cover their forms in a apron. God saw this was NOT enough coverage and ..... in Genesis 3:21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
God Himself placed Adam and Eve in a tunic / robe like garment
( to the knees or beyond )
The Hebrew word for coat is Kethoneth ..
a shirt:—coat, tunic, robe.
In truth, all godly men since Noah to Jesus have worn such a garment to cover their forms per the Lord's instruction and that ha never changed. In fact, Jesus is coming back in a tunic/robe per Revelation 19:13
And he was clothed with a vesture ( robe ) dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
**Today most ( even claimed believers) are disobeying God by showing off their forms in a sinful manner of clothing. The dress standards have followed the fallen culture NOT God's Holy Word.
Note: we do not wear biblical clothes to be closer to God or look religious. No, we wear biblical dress to obey Him because we are born of Him!

We
see God working with His people (Israelites) all through the Old Testament,
calling them out to be different than the world in many areas including their
dress, so clothing matters. (We know this from the garden of Eden and the
blood shed to cover Adam and Eve.)
The
woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put
on a woman's garment:for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord
thy God.

Yes, this is an old testament command but we see the instructions for women as well as the character, nature and spirit echoed through the new testament, therefore it still stands today.
Satan
is the destroyer of God’s creation and he does it in many ways of which one
that stands out very visibly in this culture is women wearing what pertains to
a man (and growing in popularity) men wearing what pertains to a woman. Yes, contrary to popular belief, the clothing
men and women wore had differences and how do we know that? Because if there
were no differences then God would not have called it an abomination. Satan
is using one such area in order to
discredit and destroy the beautiful creation of God….man and woman…by mixing
male and female identity in any way he can all the way down to the gender swapping of clothes.
We
see in 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 that women are to wear unadorned, long flowing
garments that cover the form. (See the post CLICK HERE for more information on women’s biblical apparel.) Since the man is the head (authority) of
woman (1 Corinthians 11) and the leader in his home, (Ephesians 5) he is to be the leader in all things of
Christ so if his wife is to be dressed
biblically, it stands to reason that the man (leader/head/authority) would be
so as well.
That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in
charity, in patience. (Titus 2:2)
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

What
should men wear or not wear? Looking at
the guidelines for women in 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 we see that God does not
want any adornment on women so men would also fit within that category. Sports logo’s and emblems, flashy colors, patterns,
fashionable designs, advertisements etc. do not represent sobriety nor
soundness of faith, are unbiblical and should be avoided.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by
the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,
acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this
world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove
what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)
Love not the world, neither the things
that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not
in him. (1 John 2:15)
God’s
people are not to be conformed to, nor love the things of the world so worldly,
unbiblical clothing should not be a part of their lives.
Eve
was not the only one in the garden when God covered their forms with skins/tunic/robe of
animals (Genesis 3), Adam was as well so we know that God expects His men to
dress in form covering clothes.
Men’s clothing should be plain,
simple, long loose and cover the form with a tunic/robe; not tight or too small. Some plain groups have man made rules that the men in the body are to wear shirts tucked into
their pants (of which many are very tight) as well as suspenders thereby showing off their entire
form.
We see many
verses in scripture that show men wore britches (Exodus 28:42; Exodus 39:27-28; Leviticus 6:10; Leviticus
16:4; Ezekiel 44:18 and men girded their loins. That meant to tuck their
coat into their belt (what they called a girdle) and they could do
that because they wore britches underneath. Job
38:3 This left their legs unhindered for
work etc.

So we see from
history (with evidence backing that up in God’s Word- see previous mentioned
verses) that men's britches could be shown when girding up the loins. (Contrary to women who did no such
thing.) This shows a clear depiction
between mens and women’s clothing in that men (at that time) did wear britches
similar to what men wear today. The
difference is that most mens britches today are too tight and their shirts are
no where close to long enough, loose enough or they tuck them in.
A godly man who is
leading his home as an example of the Lord should wear loose pants with a long
enough, loose, untucked shirt/tunic that covers their form. This would come close to resembling the
modest clothing in biblical times that we see as our example.
Nowhere in God’s
Word do we see a separation from being biblical at one certain time and then
being allowed to be unbiblical depending on the circumstances; such as swimming,
mowing lawn etc. It is double mindedness
to think you should dress biblically covered just at the time you gather with
other believers but then go into the world without a shirt on like while mowing the lawn.
Sadly there seems
to be a great disconnect in people proclaiming Christ as they will dress up for
their ‘Sunday service’ but then go into the world to look like and act like the
fallen culture around them, frolicking on the beach in their nakedness like the
pagans and heathens. To not be biblically dressed is to be naked according to
God’s Word. Besides the fact that we are to avoid all appearance of evil
(1 Thessalonians 5:22) so the populated beach is not a place for a Christian.

Oftentimes in the summer
when the temperature gauge rises, the men strip off their clothing as much as
the women do (both being sinful/unbiblical) and on any given day a person can
see multiple naked men walking around in public with form fitting pants and
their shirts hanging from their back pocket.
God requires more
of His people and that is to come out from the world and be separate, be holy,
strive for perfection and that we were bought with a price and our body is not
our own:
Wherefore come out from among them, and be
ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will
receive you. (2 Corinthians 6:17)
but as He who called you is holy,
you also be holy in all your conduct (1 Peter 1:15)
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your
Father in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:48)
Or do you not know that your body is the
temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you
are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore
glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Corinthians 6:19:20)
It’s clear to see through God’s Word that
men are to cover their bodies in God honoring ways all the time. They are to
forsake clothing (or the lack thereof) that depicts the wretched sinfulness of
the culture and instead be a godly, shining light and example both inside and
out to that lost world around them.
