There's a growing movement stemming from the new age / pagan practice of earth worship called 'grounding' or 'earthing'. Sadly many who profess Christ are being swept away in this unbiblical belief.
Ground / Earthing is a practice where a person physically connects oneself as closely as possible to the earth such as walking barefoot, digging with their hands in the earth, laying on the ground etc and they are also producing man made grounding items such as sheets, sandals / shoes and earth grounding systems that are plugged into an outlet or grounded outside. The reason they do this is because they believe there are some mystical energies that can offset negative electrons in the body and increase healing and soundness of mind.

Here is a quote from their 'witchipedia' website:
"Grounding is the process of connecting with and becoming aware of our physcial body and it's connection with the earth. It allows us to siphon excess (nervous) energy into the earth while allowing us access to the limitless energy of the earth. Grounding has the effect of settling the mind and body....."
Christians should not have any part of pagan practices and beliefs such as this. While there is nothing wrong with going barefoot or laying on the ground, enjoying nature etc, to believe that the earth (mother earth as those who invented this belief call it) is going to impart mystical energies into us and to practice those pagan ways and beliefs is sinful.
God's Word says this about mans ways and pagan ways:
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Col 2:8
And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
2 Kings 21:6
The earth is a creation from God, it is not a god in itself and does not have supernatural powers to impart energies to humans. To do such things is called mysticism ( see the article below ) and it is sinful before God.
