Street Preacher Tips

My name is Tupos ( from dontperish.com ) and I go with my wife sister Aman and street preach full time all over America. We live in our camper van (totally self funded ) and preach the biblical gospel to the lost.

Since venturing into this area of ministry called street preaching, it has been very rewarding and also very challenging. In this article, I want to offer tips of what I have learned for godly men who want to venture into this demanding area of ministry and I pray this edifies you.

Here are some videos on street preaching points to edify you:

Updated as we go....

1) First men, learn and preach the biblical gospel (most do not preach it) See the biblical gospel here:

2) Test yourself/home and live a holy obedient life first, then go street preach to others, lest you be a hypocrite with sin yourself (Matt 7)

3) Pray and Study to be approved in the Word of God and have a biblical place to send people you contact (in the street) like a website or your email. (2 Tim 2 / Matt 28;20 to teach others)

4) voice basics .. drink lots of water the day before and warm up your voice before preaching in a way that works for you. Make sure you do not yell but learn to lift your voice up in volume without appearing to scream. (use the diaphragm not vocal cords or you wont last long in the streets)

5) In order to street preach well, you need some basic's for a location and I call this one the 3 P's!

Be looking for:

* Parking ( if your driving to the area )

* Public / free speech access

* People lots of them walking around

( places like parks, concerts, sporting events, religious events, farm markets, tourist streets side walks, etc )

***Note: NEVER stand on anyone's private property to preach unless your ready for the cops to come remove you or arrest you asap. ( seek public preaching grounds )

6) weather appropriate clothes like rain gear or layers as the temps can change a lot during the day and good walking shoes are a MUST!

7) If at all possible do not go alone. It is good to have at least another person there to video, watch your back or call police if you get jumped / attacked.

8) Know the local laws and what are the free speech areas like sidewalks, parks, tourist roads with foot traffic, public buildings etc. Often "special events" get permits from towns that may remove your free speech access in the area, during their event.

9) Preach a balance of calling the world out of sin Luke 13:3 with the gospel good news John 3:16 (grace and judgement .... love and wrath... hope and fear of God )

10) Always make contact with police ahead of time if you can and get the laws / street tips from them. Tell them you obey the law and do not want to be arrested. They usually appreciate you respecting them in that way. (Give them your gospel card so they see your legit and serious.)

11) Have an audio and video (is best) recording going or ready to go at all times for "safety reasons".

12) Be able to read people and do not engage mockers and leave the area asap if people get angry or threatening. (Tell them they are being recorded.)

13) Be prepared and have proper equipment. Here is a list of the basics I recommend and find very useful in street preaching. https://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/2020/01/tools-for-street-preaching.html

14) If you make videos, do not place your face up close in the camera "the whole time" ( this is not about you preacher / John 3:30 we decrease as Christ increases ) and do not video a bunch of immodest people who are showing off their bodies or acting foolish and carnal on camera. (Audios are best usually, though I do use some short select video clips too to encourage others)

15) Avoid angry / unbiblical name calling and let wisdom and love lead. But yes, at times, you will need to publicly rebuke false teachers and false converts per 1 Tim 5

16) Do not be quarrelsome, mean or unruly / strive to be at peace with all men / Heb 12:14 (police, business owners and people your preaching to even mockers) for your best witness.

17) NEVER debate/argue for long with people in the streets. Offer them your email to go deep in topics later as you are there to preach, NOT debate!

18) Do not engage men's wives in theological discussions as you are teaching over their authority. (Have the woman get her husband to contact you to be biblical per 1 Cor 14) They get mad at this but it is biblical.... 1 cor 14

19) When police show up be calm, respectful, offer your drivers license asap and be willing to obey all laws. If they want you to leave (even if you think they are wrong) ask what law you are breaking? If they get angry or threaten to arrest you; leave and follow up with the chief later for the laws that you were claimed to be breaking. (Get police info on the scene like badge numbers/names.) Avoid arrest as it is bad for your witness and can be costly. Just move on to preach another place and another day men. Note: We can be like Paul as ask for our rights as a citizen and usually that gets us free speech for now but evil is growing!

See here is article on dealing with police:

20) I have learned it is RARELY ever a good idea to witness at a event for days in a row unless, it is so huge, you can change locations. Often people ( like those selling or working at a event ) get mad at God's Word going out and they MAY get more aggressive the next day. Pray about this ....

21) I believe is it wise to MOVE your street preaching around a lot and never broadcast ahead where you are preaching. ( why give enemies that info? )  I find that if I do a lot of witnessing in a town, pressures can build up with the enemies of the gospel and it is good to GO move to another town. If you cannot travel to preach in other towns, at least move around a lot in your own town. I believe it is wisdom to do so....
