One big challenge in the off gird homestead life is keeping things cool, without a fridge. But we have found a simple easy way (if you have a well) that works pretty good.
1) Use a cooler of your choice
2) run your well (as under ground water is about 50 degrees) and fill the cooler up with cold water
3) cover it with a reflective material and done!
There you have a simple cooler for drinks on hot days.
While they are cool not icy cold, it sure beats warm drinks. Oh we did that one summer before our well was in and it was not very nice I assure you.
Note:
On really really hot days, we will run our well in the am and then evening as well to keep them cooler. It works well for us.....
