Homosexuality/Sodomy...the Truth About It

We like to put a disclaimer ahead of hot topics like this. We love all people and we view ALL sin as an offense against God... including our own. All sin is a reproach to God. This is not hate speech but truth speech. We call out all sin and disobedience as evidenced on our teaching blog.  

In today's culture the topic of homosexuality/sodomy comes up often. It is a heated and battled over topic between those who see it as wrong and sin vs those who are fighting to make it mainstream and accepted.
 Man likes to change sin into things more acceptable like murder to abortion or adultery to having a affair. We think we should call sin what the Word says it is. Today sexual perversion is often called "being gay" but the age old description of a homosexual man is a sodomite. (see Sodom that God destroyed) Please know we care about all people and we do not view a homosexual/sodomite any different then we view our own past sins of drunkenness or idolatry. We call them to repentance and new life in Christ. As with all topics; we will approach it from the basis of what does God's Word say about it. Our opinion is meaningless and what the culture decides about it is just as meaningless in the end.
In the book of Genesis chapter 1 we have a clear plan of what God the Creator wanted for mankind:
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
God's plan was male and female to multiple. This cannot happen in homosexual/sodomite relationships. 
Then in chapter 2 God says:
And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
God's plan was a man and a woman to cleave to each other in marriage. A man and a man or a woman and a woman is NOT God's plan.
Then in Genesis 19 we see this event where the term sodomite comes from. The men of Sodom wanted to have sex with some male strangers:
But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it.
Clearly this was a sinful act as Lot called it wicked and God destroyed the city due to its many sins. Was sodomy it's only sin? No... it was sinful in various ways but the sin of sodomy was in fact one of them as scripture shows clearly.
What did God tell the Israelites about homosexuality/sodomy?
In Leviticus 18 He says:
22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

Leviticus 20 says:
If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall beupon them.

This is serious and sinful before God!

In the book of Ezekiel chapter 16 we read this about Sodom itself:
48 As I live, saith the Lord God, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters.
49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
. 
Amazingly; some try to say it was ONLY Sodom's in hospitality or its treatment of the poor that caused its destruction but that verse in Ezekiel says.... she committed abominations and we know that sodomy is an abomination before God. Sodom had other sins then sexual perversion for sure. (idleness and fullness)
Moving on to the New testament Word; it too addresses the subject of homosexuality/sodomy.
The subject of gay/sodomite marriage is a huge battle ground today. Jesus Himself addresses this and as he sets the order of God; he nevers mentions a man  marrying a man.
Matthew 19
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

The Apostle Paul also covers this topic of sexual sin in several places.
1 Corinthians 6
Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
In this scripture... Paul makes it very clear what God thinks of the sin of homosexuality / sodomy.

 Romans 1
 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Again it is very sad there are those today who attempt to make this sexual sin acceptable to God and His Word. They say that Sodom had nothing to do with homosexual acts. If we look at one more NT scripture verse; it sheds some light on the events of Sodom.

Jude 1
Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Having said all of this and showing you what God's Word clearly teaches about homosexual/sodomite sex; we need to make clear it is a sin just the same as MANY sins mentioned in the NT Word. Below are a few of those sins that the bible condemns. Today many denominational religious people will call out homosexuals but they OVER LOOK these sins they themselves commit weekly making them hypocrites!

Examples are:
idolatry (sports/entertainment), gluttony, lying, false man made religion, gossip, division of believers, lukewarmness, carnality, worldliness, immodest dress, lack of head coverings, make up, adornment, slander, paganism ( Christmas and easter) dirty language, lack of church discipline, laziness, idleness, lack of love, lack of obedience ,lack of holiness just to name a few..... 

We would never bring up someones sexual preference at all. We just preach the gospel to all lost people ( we were lost once too) But if asked; we would in love warn the homosexual/sodomite to repent of his or her sinful lifestyle and seek after the Living God for new and eternal life to come because... we love them. To be fair; we would also warn those who look to judge the sexual sin in others to follow the Matthew 7 warning by Jesus. Go get the plank out of your eye before you call out others for their own sin. 

We hope this has shed some light on the sexual topic and also the hypocrisy of those who treat it as the WORST sin in the world; as they harbor their own sins.
As the radical pro homosexual groups try to change God's Word to approve of sexual sins; they will fail as His Word is eternal. It is also clear that man made religious folks will also fail as they aim to make one sin greater then those sins they embrace and practice in their so called religious worship services and daily lives. Both need to repent, be made new and obey God's Word lest they face His wrath to come!
See 2 thess 1:8-9
 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
