Jesus Calling, The Book Exposed-Sarah Young

PLEASE AVOID THIS BOOK....
We do not go to, promote or suggest that people who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ be involved in the entertainment industry, movies or spiritual books. We are called to live holy and separated from the fallen worlds ways and not to be of it for our pleasure. It is not consistent with a holy or biblical life of a God fearing person.
Before we delve into the book, let us give you a quick bio on Sarah.  She has a degree in psychology and counciling and her forte is to council women who have had troubled backgrounds, by digging into their past.  Jesus calling reflects this nature and by the way it is written it mostly appeals to women in the verbiage that it is written.

For Adam was first formed, then Eve.  14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.  (1 Timothy 2:13-14)

This is a warning that Christian women need to take notice of and by the looks of it, professing Christian women are not heeding the Word of God!  This book has sold over 10 million copies, and as we look into the denominational/evangelical religious organizations we oftentimes see there is a larger proportion of women (compared to men) and they are leading the ship.  Woman was deceived in the beginning and although God's Word gives warnings, women are being deceived now.
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)

How are these false teachings creeping into the homes of weak willed women?  One such way is through unbiblical books such as Jesus Calling.

Sarah says that her conversion was the result of a warm mist enveloping her and claims it was the presence of Jesus and that Jesus visited her again many times over and since then has been receiving direct communication from God.  (CLICK HERE to read an article about the presence of God and if it is biblical.)  Mysticism is prevailant in the unbiblical roman catholic religious system and it it spawning it's lies throughout the denominationa/evangelical world very quickly.

Not only is this unbiblical (Hebrews 1 and Revelation 22) she warns others that the Word of God (the bible) is the only infallible source of truth (which is true) but yet she then claims that mature Christians can ‘hear’ God and be in His Presence, receiving direct messages from Him.   She does warn to be careful that the messages correspond to the bible.  If she would take her own advice she would throw out her book because receiving messages directly from God (today) does not line up with His word so therefore they are not of Him.

Sarah should heed the Word of God:   Deuteronomy 18:20  But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

In her book: God Calling, she says “I began to wonder if I, too, could receive messages during my times of communing with God. I had been writing in prayer journals for years, but that was one-way communication: I did all the talking. I knew that God communicated with me through the Bible, but I yearned for more…”

Sarah apparently feels the Word if God is not enough, what does God’s Word say?

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.  14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;  15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
(2 Timothy 3:13-17)

If we can be “ thoroughly furnished unto all good works” then the Word of God is sufficient.  We should strive for understanding/wisdom (James 1) of the Word that God has already given us, through the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

The Bible does not command us to sit and listen for God to speak to us as Sarah encourages people to do, so it is important to determine where she came by this practice.  (Sarah was influenced by a few books one of which is God Calling which is where she got her foundation of listening to God by reading about two ‘listeners’ that claim God was speaking to them and while they used some sort of automatic writers to record.  The book contains mysticism in various forms including channeling/divination; which is forbidden by God. The book also promotes thinking of God as ‘mother’ as well as many more unbiblical issues.)

God’s Word gives us instructions on how not to get swept away in such unbiblical teachings:
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)

If Sarah tested the spirit by which she was receiving this communication, she would clearly see that it is not the Jesus of the bible.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.  9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-9)

Jesus calling contains various references to light (golden light, rays of light) and it enveloping or being a presence and the context often is used in a new age, mystical way. God’s word does not use light in those ways but various cults do.

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.  15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.  (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)

Although there are some areas that are inspiration and the concept of the gospel comes through  as well as scripture being quoted but we also see such things in the Mormon, Jehovah Witness, muslim, roman catholic organizations etc.
Emotionalism, feelings, thoughts and notions are not how Christians are to be operating and that is what Sarah uses throughout her book to appeal to the fleshly nature of man.  We are told to live by every word of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4) not from the words of man.

It is clear by just these few points that the book Jesus Calling is to be rejected.  Ask yourself why you would consider reading such things when we have the Word of God, which is complete and sufficient to fill all our needs for a God honoring spiritual life?
