Adrian Rogers Refuted on Eternal Security/OSAS

Not long after I street preached outside an unbiblical evangelical place in Georgia, I got a message from a man. He had found my website via someone else's FB page who saw me preaching that day. He was contesting what I teach about salvation and he was claiming ( OSAS)  you cannot fall away or miss out on salvation once you claim Christ. To try and prove it, he sent me a video from Adrian Rogers, a very popular ( there is BIG a warning, popular... ) evangelical preacher whom many lifted up and loved.  ( he died in 2005 )  I took the time to watch the 41 minute video and test it to the Word, as I wanted to help this man. I also did not have any articles on Adrian Rogers to warn others as I know he was unbiblical in various areas.

Note: Mr Rogers was mega pastor, tv / radio teacher, a seminary trained and highly graduated / honored theologian of his day.

I am just a retired old wood carver, who teaches the bible at my website / travels full time to street preach the gospel out of an old Ford van. I myself have no formal theological training and so I have a advantage over Adrian. I can see God's Word with NO man made preconceived notions while he is ripe with false mindsets.

With that said, I will easily REFUTE Adrian Rogers as he is just plain wrong and in GREAT error/sin on this topic and deceiving many in the process.

What is on the line here is this:

 Rogers is teaching :
that people do NOT have to endure in a saving faith that has the fruit of holiness and obedience to the end. He says we have to do nothing ( OSAS / once saved always saved theology of Calvinsim ) that salvation is unconditional.

I am teaching:
God's Word says we DO indeed have to endure in a saving faith and that we will live a life that leads to the fruit of obedience/holiness. I also contend that a person can fall away into apostasy and sin that will damn them even after faith in Christ.

Note: I will even show you that his own words PROVE we must endure in a saving faith to the end, to know who is the elect! ( look for the blue words in my answer below )

Lets begin.....

*****************************************************************************

* Rogers starts out by quoting John 10 as famous verse for those who teach OSAS.
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

I have three points here:

First, Rogers claims that we do NOTHING for salvation yet the first verse he quotes it even says that we must .... FOLLOW.... Jesus. That is a condition of salvation. Jesus tells us in John 14:15 that loving (following ) Him is KEEPING HIS COMMANDS and John 15:14 says we are His friend IF we keep His commands.
Sounds like " DO" (verb words ) does it not?

Second, the part where Jesus says no man can pluck them from His hand.

It does not mean you cannot leave, turn back or fall away. How can we know this? Well, He is saying He ( God ) will lose NONE ( we can rest in God to do His part ) but we know from MANY scriptures in the Word that we are warned to hold to the faith / NOT fall away and a simple reading of other parts of God's Word tells us we MUST remain in Christ or be lost. See my many article here that show those verses under Calvinism Exposed https://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/

3) Jesus is talking about those who will be in heaven and ONLY the Father knows who these people are. Rogers goes on to ADMIT later that we can't know who is really of God so it appears that enduring in the faith is the answer, just as the bible teaches in Matt 24 / 1 Cor 15 / Col 1.

Here is my article on why John 10 does NOT teach eternal security:

************************************************************
*Rogers in his usual style, uses a lame physical example of workers on a bridge working better and faster if they know they are safe, to somehow say that if you know you are OSAS you will work better for God in evangelism?
This has NO biblical basis or grounds and is just a man centered, moot point not worthy of answering.

In fact, Paul says work out your salvation with fear and trembling in Phil 2 so please explain that Adrian?

**************************************
*Adrian then uses another very lame example that many people do not come to Christ as they fear they won't be able to endure.

Again this point is NOT rooted in scripture at all and Jesus Himself told us why men won't come to Him in John 3:19-21
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I could use a lame example (like Adrian does) and say: men won't get married because it is not a sure thing but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand does it? ( Adrian was married for many decades by the way and he had no idea he could endure in it but he married anyway... huh? )

*****************************************
* Next Adrian makes a fatal flaw when he quotes
1 John 2:19
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

He claims that this verse says if people fall away they were NOT true believers to begin with. Well Rogers has a problem here! It appears once again he proves that He... CANNOT tell anyone they are guaranteed eternal life today as he can't even know who will NOT fall away as fakes / so it is clear they must remain to the end as proof they are of God as many scriptures teach.

Rogers is really helping me prove my point on endurance...

***********************************************************
* At minute 6:47 Rogers again talks about those who fall away were never of God to begin with. He says they did not partake of divine nature! Really?
But Heb 6 says this:
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
Being a partaker of the Holy Spirit IS partaking of divine nature as the Spirit is Divine and thus this proves men DO fall away!

************************************************************
* Adrian again does damage to his own case trying to say anyone who falls away was NOT of God as he quotes a little saying:
"A faith that fizzles and does not finish has a flaw!
Again, how can Adrian tell anyone they will be in heaven "for sure" as he can't know if their faith will fizzle and thus they are not even of God ( per him ) ?

He is HELPING the case of enduring once again.

****************************************
* Rogers then goes into 8 "P" reasons you can be guaranteed heaven. Let's look at them:

Promised / Romans 8:38-39 and says Paul promised you can't lose it. NO Adrian, Paul just says a list of things that won't take you from God. The list does not include you going off into sin, unbelief or apostasy. In fact, Paul warns of you NOT holding fast in faith 1 Cor 15;2 and Heb 3:14
For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
There is endurance once again!
I have a article on this verse here:

Perseverance / Rogers quotes Phil 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
This verse only means God will do His part in salvation we must do ours as well. That is how a covenant of two works! We both have a part.
I have an audio explaining this verse here:

Predestination / Romans 8;29
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Rogers again has a problem here. This verse is just saying God knows who will be in heaven, only He can know for sure who His predestined/elect are.
So how can Adrian tell anyone they will be in heaven for sure? He can't know so they MUST endure to show they are the elect. Rogers already said men can be fakes and not of God so we cannot know till they endure.

Perfection / Heb 10:14
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
This cannot mean we are guaranteed heaven without enduring and obeying. Why? Rogers does not use good exegesis in this teaching as if he would read down to Heb 10:26 we see:
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
So we cannot willfully sin and still be saved. Doesn't this sound like a condition ( no guarantee )  to you folks?

Position / 2 Cor 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Rogers claims because we are NEW creations we are sealed and can't fall away. This is a lie as scripture shows we can fall away. Sealed in Ephesians does NOT mean its a guarantee. Israel was sealed but fell away often. He says Noah was shut in the ark but we know he could have chopped his way out as he was a skilled wood worker. His faith kept him IN the ark.
Here is a article on what sealing means:
http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/2019/10/sealed-by-god-is-not-eternal-security.html

Possession / John 5:24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Rogers says just believing gives you eternal life but the rest of God's Word refutes him easily!

Jesus says in John 15:14 your are my friend.. IF... you keep my commands. Believing is obeying Christ!

Prayer / Heb 7:25
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Rogers claims since Jesus is praying for us we cannot be lost. Man still has a will Adrian and if Jesus praying guarantees ALL men to be saved, why doesn't Jesus just pray for ALL men then? Silly it is!

This is a lie as Jesus Him self warns about not forgiving others and you will not be forgiven.
Matt 6:15

Power / 1 Peter 1;3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

Rogers claims we have power due to Christ's resurrection and that is true, but it is NOT a guarantee of salvation unless we do what the scriptures command.

Peter says in verse 9
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Peter also says in verse 13
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

Clearly we are to endure to the end for the hope of salvation to come!

As I showed you, even Adrian teaches you can be a fake and fool others so he cannot promise anyone eternal life as he did. He is a false teacher by his own standards!

At min 15:39 Rogers says he is glad names will NEVER be taken off the list.
But Rev 22;19 says:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Finally... Adrian totally proves what an unbiblical teacher he was! At min 22:29 he says: no one is ever saved twice!

Actually... if you read Luke 15 it is very CLEAR!!!
The prodigal son was dead when he went into sin. And the Father says he repented and came back and he is ALIVE AGAIN! ( see verses 24 and 32 that says it )

verse 24
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

verse 32
It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.

This parable alone PROVES you can be with the Father, go into sin and have to repent and and come back to be alive again.

We must always allow God's Word to help us understand truth and we must take in all of the Word and not cherry pick verses here and there! Rogers was very wrong on once saved always saved.

Adrian really needed to read ALL of the bible not just his favorite verses. He was guilty of very bad bible study habits and this article shows the correct way to study:

http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/2014/02/how-to-correctly-study-bible-eisegesis.html

While Rogers claimed to NOT be a Calvinist he indeed had some of those ways in his false theology.
Even his own teachings say we cannot know who is really the elect till the end and that they must endure in a saving faith. And scripture is so very clear that you can fall away into unbelief and sin and be lost!
Here are many articles that refute many of the verse these false teachers twist:

Please do not trust false evangelical men for God's truth.

Make sure you are born of God via the gospel ( see it below ) Then get into your bible, read and study to be approved 2 Tim 2:15 lest you will be deceived!
