Being in ministry, I get rather tired of the MANY man made false ism's that daily twist away at God's Holy Word and corrupt its meaning and holiness.
One such example is those who say that when Apostle Paul used sports for a example he is thus APPROVING of sports in the life of a Christ follower.
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
This is a ridiculous, faulty and dangerous study technique called.... proof texting.

It is basically where you take one verse and make it your doctrine without testing it to other verses. If your verse defies other scriptures and concepts of scripture it cannot be true per your understanding. Please do not go there as false teachers dwell in this way!!!!!
In this case of Paul and sports ....how do I know this practice of using one verse and twisting it for truth ( proof texting ) is faulty?
Well read Jesus words in Luke 14:31
Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
Are those who make vile / carnal sports acceptable for the saint of God, also willing to teach and to believe that Jesus APPROVED OF WAR / KILLING when in truth he taught against it?
Alsom Paul himself then went on to use a prostitute/harlot as a example:
1 Corinthians 6:16
What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
So then using their understanding, does Paul then approve of laying with a harlot also?
No and that is a silly and deceptive way to understand scripture! It leads to sin and carnality not holiness and truth.
We are to use "scripture to interpret scripture" and verses like this clearly show we are NOT to be of the worlds ways but of God's Holy ways.
This verse will help you test all things ......
Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
There are MANY verses we can use to help us see all truth in this way.
If you understand Jesus / God's nature and His holy scriptures in full, you will see both sports of the world, killing and laying with harlots are sinful and NOT of Him and thus to be avoided.

Please get rid of all your man-ism, and cling to scripture alone testing it to itself for a deep and true meaning to live by!
