Recently, I got wrongly rebuked by a man who was angry that I say beggars are mostly scammers in America as our years/experience and travels clearly shows. I stand by that comment and here is another sad case confirms it.
We saw a beggar and went to talk to him ( meet a need he might have ) and he got angry when I asked do you work? He said he can't, has a real bad foot and he had a crutch right by him as he asked for money.
We walked off as he said, go, leave me alone!!!
As we left him, what did we find? His nice bike in the bushes that he rides all over town....with the crutch strapped to it. He can peddle but NOT work?
In truth, he is a lazy liar, scamming people for cash (often woman) to no doubt buy tobacco, booze or drugs. We see this almost daily in America. The man that rebuked me said these men are just sick and they just need unconditional love. Actually that is a lie. They are sinful, they need a loving rebuke, help to beat addition when they choose that and we must remind them to..... repent or perish! Luke 13:3
Jesus said to feed the poor, yes (most often it is orphans and widows James 1:27 ) but He did NOT say 'enable liars and scammers to NOT work and soak the culture for a living to feed their carnal additions'. No, in fact it is sinful to give men money that feeds the sin of laziness, drugs and drunkenness.
Apostle Paul said this:
For even when we were with you, this we commanded you: that if any would not work, neither should he eat. 2 Thess 3:10
The Word of God says use wisdom in all things. Do not be a fool and feed lazy scammer's addictions lest you sin with them. You are NOT helping them at all so stop it!
Note: they all get our phone number & the gospel so they can call if they ever want real help!
God be praised
