We are full time van dwellers and are offering help and tips to those choosing the freedom of a mobile life. A question comes up for those of you with children: could you pursue a mobile life with a family? Yes, many have! Of course a van would be too small for a large family but there are affordable options in RV's.
We recommend that you not fall into the trap of buying a big fancy RV that will cost a lot and decrease in value, instead find an older, affordable one and fix it up to your liking.
We've seen people convert buses:
And others have used ambulances:
It all depends on how big your family is, how much you want to travel (some just live in them full time while they work in one place) and what you upfront budget is.
We caution everyone to be very careful when redoing the insides because it's easy to get carried away with what looks good on paper but in reality doesn't work very well. We suggest everyone take some test runs for a while before making drastic internal structural changes because then you can see what will work and what would have been a mistake.
Keep in mind, simplicity is best.
