 Rain Water Collecting

 Water is critical on a homestead so many people will catch rain water to use it for gardens, bathing or even drinking if you filter it first. There are many ways to catch it like via barrels.

 You can make a simple 1 barrel system like this:

And others make very large collection systems like this:

Most times the system is tied to the gutters on your home and it fills the barrels up whenever it rains. Then you have a spout on the side of the barrel to access it for your use. You can also choose to use large square or round tanks as well but; 55 gallon barrels are nice as they are small and easy to use and move. If you look locally, often people sell them after they have been used for soap or foods and they are often around $15 a barrel. 

 No, matter what you choose, catching rain water can really help your homestead in many ways. You should consider it.
