Casting Off Every Weight

It is July 2020 when we rolled into a Idaho town as we travel the nation preaching the gospel. I parked next to this 4 foot hunk of cement and it reminded me of heavy weights. In this short article lets explore the idea of weights, ones that we all must bear and how to deal with them.

The weight I am thinking of is not a physical one but those which we all carry in life and especially when we strive to follow Christ obediently. What are examples of some of those heavy weights we carry daily?

Past sins, sins we struggle against today, regrets, fear, failures, un-forgiveness, finances, unbelievers in our lives, worries, guilt, persecution, shame and many other such things.

Jesus promised us we would have much tribulation in this life / John 16:33 so we should not be surprised really.
I think the best way to deal with the burdens/weights of our life is a 3 fold action:

1) we must FACE that they will come and be there. To not face that fact will leave you surprised, vulnerable and unprepared. Like if you know there was a large rock in your back yard so you walk around it daily. To deny it is there, well you will trip over it.
Be ready for them always and just ask God for strength through or around them. He is a GOOD Father He will strengthen you.

Isaiah 41:10 - Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

2) Facing these weights is far easier if we approach them with great WISDOM. Imagine if you had to face a big angry bear and you knew he was coming. You cant avoid him no but with wisdom you go out and get some bear spray. He approaches and it causes fear/stress no doubt; but one blast of that potent spray in his face and he is off running away/coughing! (if you ran in fear he would have mauled you) You are shaking in your shoes but you are unharmed all because you faced your weight/burden and used wisdom.

James 1:5 - If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

3) Cast off those weights to the Lord and He will lift you up.
This is easier said then done but I believe the key is to focus on Him and His kingdom daily in all that you do. It transforms your worldview and mindset from physical to spiritual. It gives you a perspective from heaven not a earthly one and that transfers your weights to your faith in Christ then he can help you bear it all.

The verses that come to mind for this one are:

Psalms 55:22 - Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

and

Matthew 11:28-29 - Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Could it be the key in life's burdens and weights is to accept them, use wisdom throught them and transfer the weight unto your faith in Christ. This takes time / practice as you walk but if you are being faithful and obedient, your walk will grow and so will your ability to transfer weight off of you unto the Lord.
It is a trust issue so ponder that in prayer will you?

I leave you with this famous verse on casting off weights......

Hebrews 12:1 - Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Some weights in life we have no control over. Some are caused by our own sins that we will not forsake. Take stock and see if there are burdens you could let go of by repentance and walking in holiness. The ones that are not your fault or doing, look to the Lord in the steps I mentioned and you will have victory in time. It takes enduring and do not carry them alone, trust me that is a futile way to go! Cry out to God and confess to other true believers if you have them then times of refreshing and relief will come in Jesus name.

Let us know how we can help you cast off your weights/burdens so you can be fully FREE in Christ (John 8:32)

God be praised
