Are You a Spiritual Whore?


This may not be a popular question or a favorite bible subject but it is a good biblical topic none the less. This word may be offensive to some; but it is a bible term used often and it teaches us a great point to consider both about the flesh and the spiritual things on the faith. 

In the Old Testament, the word "whore" zawnah in Hebrew means one who sells her body for money or favor. A prostitute, adulterer or a fornicator. 

Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness. Lev 19:29

It is used about 56 times in the OT Word (9 times in the NT) In the scripture we are told about whoring woman who fall into sexual sin. 
I will not spend much time on the physical aspect of it as I think we all understand that God commanded no sexual intercourse outside of marriage so to partake in whoring for money or any adultery; is a sin before a Holy God. Most people would agree to be whore, fornicator or adulterer is a terrible thing indeed. But there is a area of whoring that few talk about, that many are guilty or and I want to take us there as a teaching moment.  

This word whore does mean sexual sin but it is also used to frame and expose spiritual adultery which God hates even more. It is when you enter into rebellion and go against God's Word / ways; you are guilty of whoring or spiritual adultery. Israel is called out for this sin many times like here:

And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. Numbers 14:33

Here the word is zenooth and it is adultery / idolatry.

 Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness. Jeremiah 3:2 

Israel many times played in spiritual whoredom (sin/rebellion) towards God and so much so he divorced her. 

And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also. Jereimiah 3;8

Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the Lord. A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the Lord their God. Jereimah 3:20

Here we see why Gods was upset:

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God. Jeremiah 3:2

I am amazed at people today who do not think God wants His people to OBEY His Word. Here is another example of Israel disobeying God and thus going into whoredom:

 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children. As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame. They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity. And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings. For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord.  Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God. Hosea 4

We see in the OT that by leaving God's Word/commands you were called playing the whore and doing whoredom.

Lets switch gears to the New Testament and see what whoredom appears and how it is relevant to us today. There are several sexual uses of this term like here Apostle Paul uses a similar term pornos in Greek for a male whore:

For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Ephesians 5:5

Then we get to the book of Revelation and it uses the term whore various times. It is interestingly in these verses in reference to idolatry and rebellion against God's Word from a apostate religious system that has persecutued the true saints. 

And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. Rev 17

Here is another reference with this term in Revelation:

For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. Rev 19:2

Fact: God is coming to judge and destroy these whoredom systems. (see 2 Thess 1:8 thru 10) 

By these verses we also see in the NT that by leaving God's Word/commands you were called playing the whore and doing whoredom as well. 

While we cannot be dogmatic about this fact; many think the Roman Catholic church is the Whore referenced here and there is good evidence to support it. Interestingly; that would also mean the protestant/evangelical system (which is also apostate and disobeying God's Word) would be the daughter of the Whore as would all the thousands of denominations that have come on the scene; all made of man and apostate. We see by a scripture study on this word; that God stands against both physical and the spiritual whoring that men do in things like the Roman mass, Christmas, Easter, corrupting the gospel with Solas, being friends with the world, living in sin and calling for grace and making up many "false jesus" to soothe their fleshly ways. (See 2 Cor 11:4) None of these things will go unpunished before a Holy and angry God! 

****It is vital to note that God sees His body as His bride so to cheat/disobey/practice false ways other then His truth against the groom; is in fact spiritual adultery and it makes you a whore doing whoredom. 

I am amazed at people who expect their husband or wife to be perfectly faithful to them as they willfully sin againsy God and say they expect heaven still. God will NOT be mocked!
Question: Do you want your marital partner whoring around on you? If NOT; you better stop sinning on and doing false ways against God or you are a hell bound hypocrite. That is another sin He HATES as well, hypocrisy! (See Matthew 23 )

It is a fact that very few who claim Jesus even know the Word well, nor are they striving hard to remove and avoid all sin. A easy believe "Luther lie or grace alone" has over taken many and they are lost souls. This quick study on whoredom gives us ample evidence to proclaim a simple but hard hitting fact. If you yourself claim Jesus but practice / keep false man made religious ways, you leave the biblical gospel for a false grace alone gospel, you do willful sin, live in pride  vanity and you are of the world; you are being like a spiritual whore, doing whoredom and God's wrath is coming for you.... lest you repent! 

Gods grace does NOT cover you if you sin on and on!
( See Hebrews 10:26 and 27) 

Please go ponder that and seek the truth in God's Word. Jesus said we must be in spirit and truth to worship (John 4:24) and Peter said we are to be spotless for Him:

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 2 Peter 3;14

 If you are Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Protestant, any other denomination or you are keeping other false man made ways/corrupt gospels, willful sins it will bring you judgement and death, not eternal life to come! God divorced Israel and He will cast you off as well; lest you stay faithful in His goodness. (See Romans 11)
The fact is those truly born of God are NOT willingly whoring around on their Father. Please go test yourself will you as you do not want to be the ones Jesus mentioned in Matthew 7... "away from me you worker of iniquity".     

Repent and obey the biblical gospel, while there is time.
