Lets look at God's Word (our ONLY source of truth) to see what it has to say about this doctrine.
As we scan the Holy scriptures we CANNOT find one single verse that clearly teaches this idea that God loves man, without ANY condition.
The God of Creation is indeed a God of law and conditions. He would be lawless ( sinful ) unless He stood on His ways, rules or laws. He is a God of covenants ( an agreement between two with limitations.) Often religious men I witness to will say "oh you're just about rules NOT about God". I lovingly challenge them by saying 'you cannot separate God from His law ( rules ) or He ceases to be a Holy God.'
Example: separate a police officer from his law keeping ways and he ceases to be an officer of the law, amen?
Please, let's be honoring to God shall we? You need only to to open your bible and read to see the foolishness of this false man made doctrine:
*In Genesis we see God placing Adam and Eve in the garden and He gives them a rule/law to obey. They could stay there based on a condition.
See Genesis 1-3
*Then look at marriage that God ordained. It is between and man and a woman's faithfulness to each other and it clearly comes with conditions.
See Genesis 1
*Look at the 10 commands God gave Moses, they are all conditions to OBEY.
See Exodus 20
*Look at God's relationship to Israel (who He loved) and all over the old testament you see MANY rules/ laws God gave them as conditions to OBEY to be blessed by Him. ( 613 rules that is. )
Clearly the God of the Old Testament was a God of law and many conditions.
Moving into the New Testament; do we see His laws or conditions going away compeletly? No, not at all though they do change because of what Christ has done on the cross.
*In John 3:3 Jesus said you must be born again to see God's Kingdom. That's a condition.
*In John 3:16 we see the promise of eternal life through Christ and it also has a condition, that you believe/have a saving faith.
*In Luke 13:3 Christ says repent or perish. That is a condition.
*In Hebrews 5:9 we see that Christ made the way of eternal life; for those who obey. ( another condition )
*In Matthew 6:15 Jesus Himself tells us if we do not forgive, we WONT be forgiven. Another condition.
*In John 14:15 Jesus says if you love me keep my commands. Another condition.
* In 1 Corinthians 6 Paul says none of these types of people will see heaven. More conditions.
*In Hebrews 14:12 we are told without holiness no one will see God. Another condition.
Lastly, in the book of Revelation chapter 22 we see the warning that if you add or change God's Word you will be removed from the book of life (another condition) or you will miss heaven.
Many will say 'but grace has come so now we do not need to worry or strive to be without sin and obey Gods law'.

You will not find the idea of God's unconditional love in the Apostles or in early or even later history until about 100 years ago or so. Why?

This modern human is very self centered and desires to relate to things that feed their own flesh and caters to its heartfelt needs, not truth. Man is also claiming he is no longer responsible for his own actions but he plays the victim. We see this all over the culture today and examples are:
*Man sees himself as GOOD at heart not evil of fallen
*You are not practicing sin (like sexual perversion) but you are just born gay
*The eternal law of God has been replaced by what makes me feel good as a person.
*Rather then God being the center of truth, man is now the center unto himself.
Having said that, since man made denominational evangelical religion relies on people in their pews to grow and supply it money; modern pastors ( an unbiblical position today) have adopted these sinful, humanistic based, seeker heart felt ways to the goods news ( gospel ) of God simply to attract people who would normally turn away from God's True Word. He is a false teacher and modern pastors of evangelicalism have drank this cool-aide by the gallon for many decades now!!! The fruit of it is the worldly, carnal unbiblical people who attend religious Sunday services all over the nation; but they LACK obeying God's Word in full.
It is clear that modern pastors are lying to people for their own gain, church growth, ego and pride. It is shameful before a Holy God! Amazingly.... as I am writing this article in a restaurant; I got up to get coffee and saw a man reading his bible. We talked and I asked him if God's love is unconditional. He said "yes". When I said are you sure he thought and said again "yes it is unconditional".
(He is part of man made religion and they are lying to him.) I then started walking him through the biblical gospel and he quickly admitted that ok yes it is by faith then repentance then being born again then,obedience/ holiness unto endurance that enter into a salvation hope with God through Christ. So I then asked him again, 'now is God's love unconditional as man made religion is teaching?'
And he said 'no it has conditions'.
