We often talk about living small, being debt free and being able to have the time and resources to serve God without all the cares of this culture on you. With the world falling apart over the corona virus (April 2020) there is no better time then NOW to make a plan to get your life and house in order as dark perilous days are coming in the world just as scripture tells us. Are you ready?
As born again saints, both van dwellers and off grid homesteaders, we know about this simple debt free life and we appreciate it so much! Often people will say "oh you can't really do it", they say it is too hard and they make many others excuses. We will often hear those things but they are just that; excuses. If you can muster the courage and will, it CAN be done, especially in the Lord!
Psalms 37:4 - Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
I have an awesome/quick story to encourage all of you who may be interested in off grid homestead life or van dwelling.
I know this young brother in the Lord (22 yrs old) and he has been striving to serve Christ and desiring a move/new life in a new place. I need to point out this man has had MANY health challenges to over come in his young life to even get to a place most of us already take for granted. He has been diligent with his faith, time, attitude, money, all key factors. He is also willing to kill his flesh and sacrifice comfort to be free for Christ. Most men are NOT willing to do that but God calls us to NOT be in the flesh.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8:8
I am so happy to report that he is striving in off grid & van dwelling life. He is not a high paid employee either as he works as a laborer for a retailer. Perhaps hearing his faithful story and steps will help you in your goals? (God has opened doors for him all the way.)
This young man has had major trials including health issues, foster homes, the death of his mother, a very bad relationship with his dad at home (mentally abusive really) he lost one job (not his fault) and he lost another job due to a minor accident (his fault he admits) not on purpose of course. But he picked himself up, he went out and landed a great new job and from there the story gets even better.
In the last year, he has done these steps:
1) He left his dad's house and got a tiny apartment, all on his own.
2) He walked to work in a sub zero climate saving up for a van.
3) He got his 2005 van (paid cash) set it up for van dwelling life.
4) He worked hard and was a top worker/is allowed to transfer jobs to another state to make this move.
5) He will van dwell and eventually most likely move to new town and maybe buy some land to homestead on.
Keep in mind this is a young, inexperienced 22 year old getting it done for the Lord while I see men 2-3 times his age making excuses why they can't do it!
And note: this is all DEBT FREE!
How did he do it?
Well, he has had to kill his flesh, leave the easy apartment life, leave all he has ever known / family, push himself (for the Lord) when he wanted to quit, make a plan and stick to it. He tells me often it is all because of His faith in Christ. He is now on his way to that new FREE life serving God without the burden of debt and the cultures enslaving ways upon him. We are so happy for him!
