A sinners prayer is a prayer (most often preplanned, rehearsed, or pre-written) that is used in various situations such as after an emotional sermon, an evangelistic outreach, alter call or written on a tract in order to psychologically manipulate or coerce people into supposedly ‘accepting’ Jesus as their Savior.  Sinner’s prayers oftentimes accompany altar calls.  (ClickHERE to read about the unbiblical nature of altar calls.)

Billy Graham (ecumenical false teacher) mainstreamed the altar call and sinners prayers in his crusades from the 50’s to the 80’s.  Many false converts were created from this unbiblical practices which are not found in God’s Word.

The recipients of these ‘sinners prayers’ are oftentimes biblically illiterate and have been given a false gospel (click HERE to read about proclaiming a biblical gospel) by someone in the unbiblical man made religious system and most are often convinced they are saved because they supposedly were repentant and by saying the prayer they are now a child of God and will receive eternal life.

This would be comparable to a man reciting marriage vows to a person they do not know.
Sinners prayers are unbiblical and they conjure a ‘decision’ for Christ as opposed to what God’s Word says…faith:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
A person must hear God’s Word, (the whole gospel truth) realize they are a sinner and in need of the only Savior and through faith believe He has died for their sins, defeated death and has risen to heaven.   From that a person will repent (Acts 2) be born from above (John 3:3), be baptized (Acts 2) in obedience, be made a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) and will be walking in full obedience (John 14:15) and holiness (1 Peter 1:15) giving their lives as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1) enduring to the end. Matt 24.  Inside this surrendered life will most certainly be a prayer to Jesus Christ as a broken being, but not a prayer that has been formulated or pre-planned to entice or pressure someone to a false salvation situation.

We encourage people to study the New Testament body that Jesus Christ set up, and reject man made religion and its false gospels, traditions and manipulations and instead seek truth through God’s Word.

God be praised
