Faith in Christ is simple but living it out in this fallen world can be complicated and costly.
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ
2 or 11:3
In our ministry or full time van dwelling and preaching Christ crucified all over America in the streets; we come in contact with many people. Often they are seeking Christ and they want a simple life out of the complex systems around them. The fact is car living/camping can give you that and it is not complicated to do. For those who are willing to kill their flesh it is a cheap, mobile and very simple way to live. See my van dwelling tip page for MANY pointers that will apply to car life as well: http://spiritandtruthdiscernment.blogspot.com/p/van-dwelling-tips.html
Here are the advantages to car living/camping:
*it is cheap / you can save a ton of money
*it is mobile and simple; reducing your life down to better serve God
*it forces you to kill flesh; a great need in a biblical Christian life
*it keeps you humble and lowly (a good thing per Jesus)
*it forces you to NOT be so connected to the world
*if you are living with worldly family or friends, its a great way to get set free for Christ quickly
*men; you could live so cheap, do spot work/jobs and preach the good news all over the nation this way.
I have had various people ask me how to get started in it so, I thought I would put together a basic list. Then later I will do a more advanced list to help you get further into this life.
The following is a BASIC needs list to go out and try to live in your car:
1) do your own research for your area and find out where you can park over night. (Walmart, parking lots, residential street parking, Cracker Barrel Restaurants, industrial parks, country road pull offs, rest stops etc) Make sure you know of the local laws and go fit in somewhere. (ladies be "extra careful" in where you car camp) Parking out in the world and sleeping is strange at first but; trust in God and you grow into it all very quickly.
2) you will need a flat surface bed area and one long enough to stretch out in your car. Often this is with a front seat folded forward. You may need to add a wood platform or some supports like totes but depending on your vehicle, you decide all of that. (it can get really fancy or super simple) Note: I have seen folks sleep sitting in the front seats but that is not best for a good nights sleep in my mind but; it is doable.
3) a sleeping pad, sleeping bag or enough blankets to stay warm and a good pillow. Consider the weather in your area.
4) you might want to have covers on your windows for privacy. Lots of ways are available like cardboard and aluminum foil, sun shades, towels, sheets etc. Make it look not so obvious from the outside (black or silver is best) as you do not draw attention. If you want to just go without them you can but; then in daylight people can see right in so it is your call.
5) water, personal items (tooth brush/hygiene things) and some food basics (snacks, fruit, crackers, cheese, jerky, breakfast bars and items you do not need to cook over a fire) Warning: Do not start eating out as that is very expensive!
6) you need a means to go to the bathroom in your car. Look online and there is lots of ways to do it easy, you seek that area out as it is private and a personal thing that I do not go into for others but; it is not very hard to do.
That is really it folks!
Those are the bare basics to go and survive in your car for a short time. If you are considering this simple life; go out and try it several nights and see how it all goes. Anyone can do it and it comes down to NOT all will kill their flesh to go do it!
Need encouragement to do it? Make a budget and see all the money$$$$ you can save up if you made the move to go full time car living/camping. That means FREEDOM!!!!!
Note: Try it in your area first then know there are states and towns that are way better for it so; do your research.
